eLearning Day Due to Inclement Weather Tomorrow - Friday, September 30, 2022

Friday, September 30, 2022 will be an eLearning Day for the School District of Pickens County due to Hurricane Ian's predicted path and concerns for high winds for school buses and hazardous conditions. Students will not attend school in-person.

In an effort to provide parents with as much notice as possible we are making this decision today for eLearning on Friday.

This decision was made after the SDPC Weather Team consulted with Emergency Management regarding the forecast for tomorrow.

eLearning Days allow students to make up days missed to inclement weather or other emergencies by completing a set of assignments within 5 school days (Oct. 7). For students in grades K5-12, most or all of these assignments can be completed on the student's school-issued Chromebook. Students in earlier grades may also be given a list of traditional assignments to complete within five days. Your child's teacher will communicate the details of the assignments for your child's class. Students who do not complete their assignments will be counted as absent for the day. This will be eLearning Day #1 for the 2022-23 school year.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this weather situation. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

DID YOU KNOW???

Operating Buses - When wind forces of 30 MPH or greater strike the side of a school bus, the forces exerted can exceed 500 pounds. Forces of this magnitude can greatly impact steering control and tracking of school buses in motion. This is true for sustained winds of 30 MPH or greater or wind gusts greater than 40 MPH.
